Michael Barber is a second generation Winter Park native. He attended college at the University of Central Florida and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in 2008. Mr. Barber went on to obtain his Juris Doctorate from the University of Florida in 2011. While in law school Mr. Barber was elected Magister of Phi Delta Phi, the international legal honors fraternity, two years in a row.Mr. Barber began his legal career as an Assistant State Attorney in Orange County, Florida. After two years of serving as a prosecutor Mr. Barber joined the Umansky Law Firm where he worked for over three years practicing criminal defense. Mr. Barber joined the law firm of Lindsey and Ferry in May of 2017. He represents clients in felony and misdemeanor cases in the state courts of Florida and the federal Middle District of Florida.Mr. Barber has been consistently recognized for his work in the legal field. He was named one of “Florida’s Legal Elite” by Florida Trend Magazine in 2014 and 2016 and also named a “Florida Super Lawyer Rising Star” by Florida Super Lawyer Magazine in 2015 and 2016. In 2016 Mr. Barber was recognized by his alma mater and awarded the prestigious University of Central Florida Top 30 Alumni under 30 award. Mr. Barber is also peer-rated AV-Preeminent by Martindale-Hubbell. Mr. Barber is active in the local community and makes time to give back to the citizens of Central Florida. In 2016 Mr. Barber ran for elected office and was duly elected as Orange County Soil and Water Supervisor for District 1. In addition to his elected office Mr. Barber served on the board of directors for both the Downtown Orlando YMCA from 2012 until 2016, and on the board of directors of Opera Orlando from 2016 until 2017. Mr. Barber is also very active with the legal community and serves the Orange County Bar Association in a variety of capacities. Mr. Barber has served as a board member for the Young Lawyer Section since 2013. He has also served on the Criminal Law Committee since 2013, and was elected chair of the committee two years in a row from 2015 until 2017. Mr. Barber served on the Judicial Relations Committee from 2016 until 2017, and the Lawyer Referral and Information Services Oversight Committee from 2016 until present. For his work as a board member of the Young Lawyer Section Mr. Barber was awarded the Young Lawyer Section Award of Excellence in 2015 and 2016. Mr. Barber was also awarded the Orange County Bar Association Outstanding Committee Chair award in 2016 due to his leadership as chair of the Criminal Law Committee from 2015 until 2016.
