After graduating from Fairmont West High School in Kettering, I attended Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. I already knew I wanted to be a lawyer, so with the guidance of academic advisors I majored with equal hours in history and political science. I served as treasurer for my fraternity, Phi Gamma Delta (FIJI), obtaining experience managing an annual budget that was then (1972) in excess of $100,000.

I proceeded to law school at the University of Akron School of Law. After the transition of first year, I began clerking year round with a downtown Akron law firm for the final two years of law school. I was also invited to be on the staff of the Law Review where I was published, an article addressing the issues of medical malpractice litigation and proposed legislation in the United States Congress.

After law school and passing the bar, I returned to the Dayton, Ohio area where I worked downtown with two large law firms. For seventeen years, I devoted my practice to representing insurance companies, corporations and municipalities – all in a litigation and trial context. Municipalities I represented included the City of Akron, City of Oakwood, City of Miamisburg, City of Centerville, City of Beavercreek, City of Huber Heights and City of Dayton. During the course of my career I have tried over 100 jury trials to verdict, over and above the hundreds of cases I negotiated to an amicable resolution.

Already living in Troy, in 1994 I moved my practice to Miami County where I have been since. My office has always been in downtown Troy. I am located now on Short Street which is right across Short Street from the Old Courthouse, the tallest building in town with the clock on the top. Bringing my big firm trial experience to a small town practice, I have helped hundreds of people most effectively representing them for optimum results in juvenile court, domestic relations court, civil court and criminal court. The issues I most commonly encounter in these courts are OVI (DUI), child custody, criminal defense and divorce.

As a general practitioner in a small town, I advise local businesses on a variety of issues important to their operation including personnel, contract negotiation and risk management. My years of experience with commercial litigation give me the best experience to provide the highest level of legal counseling and service for these businesses in Miami County, Shelby County, Darke County and Champaign County.

In my almost 30 years living in the Troy community I have given my time and efforts to community activities. I belong to the Troy Noon Optimists Club supporting the youth of our community, serving as President of the Optimists for one year. While my son, Ben, played football at Troy High School, I served as President of the Football Parents Association for 2 years. I served as the advisor to the Troy High School Mock Trial Competition Team until funding losses terminated the program. For over 20 years I have been on the Board of the Family Abuse Shelter of Miami County, Inc. providing support for the homeless and the victims of abuse. I support the Troy Civic Theatre and am a past board member for that non-profit organization.

I support my profession with memberships in professional organizations, speaking for continuing legal education of my peers and writing for Ohio Trial Magazine. My hobbies include reading and travel with my wife, Kim.

With this background experience and my prior association with large firms in Dayton, I bring big firm experience to a small town practice. I look forward to meeting you and the opportunity to counsel and advise you with your legal issues.
