Christopher C. Botta is of counsel to the firm and concentrates his practice on insurance defense litigation and coverage issues. The Mayor of the Borough of Ramsey, New Jersey, since 2007, Chris joined Rubinton & Associates in 2009 as an experienced trial attorney.

A life-long resident of New Jersey, Chris received his Bachelor of Arts in political science from the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts. He then attended Fordham University School of Law, where he was an Articles Editor on the Fordham Urban Law Journal, earning his Juris Doctor in 1992.

After graduating law school, Chris worked as a law clerk at the Superior Court of New Jersey, Civil Division, during which time he also served as a certified civil mediator at the Bergen County Courthouse. As an associate at Clausen Miller P.C. in Manhattan, he focused on first- and third-party insurance defense litigation, including defending drug manufacturers in the “fen-phen” diet-drug class-action lawsuits and defending insurers in lead-paint and asbestos-exposure cases. He also investigated, analyzed, and litigated first- and third-party environmental coverage claims, as well as insurance subrogation claims. While an associate at the New Jersey firm of Carver & Mancinelli, P.A., Chris expanded his practice to include not only insurance defense litigation and the defense of public entities, but also real estate transactions, family law, estate-planning, and corporate law. An experienced trial attorney at that point, Chris joined Huntington Carver, L.L.P., as a partner and trial attorney, where he defended public entities and litigated commercial disputes in both state and federal court. He also planned estates and drafted trusts for individuals, and appeared before various governmental boards and agencies on behalf of land-use development clients.

In 2004, Chris formed the firm Botta & Associates, L.L.C. As managing partner, Chris represents New Jersey municipal entities and insurance clients, and has specific expertise in employment litigation, including discrimination and Whistleblower Act cases. In addition, Chris handles commercial transactions and has litigated commercial matters in state and federal court, including successfully arguing appeals before the New Jersey and New York Appellate Divisions and the New Jersey Supreme Court. As of counsel to Rubinton & Associates, Chris handles first- and third-party insurance matters, as well as insurance litigation in the New Jersey and New York courts.

Chris has lectured and moderated at municipal and police programs and conventions on such issues as public entity liability, worker’s compensation claims, class action lawsuits, and effective risk management. An active member of his community, Chris was a Councilman before becoming Mayor of the Borough of Ramsey. He also was the president of Ramsey Golf & Country Club, judged mock trial for the New Jersey State Bar Foundation, and currently serves as President of Ramsey Housing, Inc., a non-profit entity that built and manages a residential facility, “Airmount Woods,” for adults with autism spectrum disorders in Ramsey, New Jersey. He also serves as the director of the Fordham University School of Law Alumni Association, New Jersey Chapter, and is general counsel to the New Jersey Safety Institute, a non-profit organization dedicated to improving traffic and pedestrian safety in New Jersey.
