Yu Cai has a unique understanding of how the life sciences and technology industries intersect in today’s competitive business world. Both a Ph.D. and an attorney, Yu works closely with businesses as well as universities and research institutes to assist them with patent procurement, counseling, planning, and patent portfolio management. Fluent in Mandarin, Yu also assists clients on international matters relating to patents, litigation, and corporate transactions that require not only her language proficiency and cultural understanding, but also her experience and legal skills. Yu has actively assisted the Translational Genomics Research Institute (TGen) with a variety of intellectual property-related matters.

While pursuing her Ph.D., Yu gained extensive research experience in epigenetic gene silencing, genetic mapping, genome sequencing, gene cloning, gene mutation, transgenic plants, plant physiology, plant signal transduction, plant secondary metabolism, and plant stress tolerance. She also has experience in food sciences, animal health, and inorganic chemistry-material science and earned her master’s degree in biochemistry and molecular biology from the Shanghai Jiao Tong University, China.
