James A. Cairns, who joined Bilicki Law in 2017 as a senior intellectual property attorney, brings more than 25 years of experience in the field and is located in Rochester, New York. Most recently, Mr. Cairns served as senior IP counsel for Honeywell Safety & Productivity Solutions in Skaneateles Falls, NY. Prior to that position, Mr. Cairns worked as an attorney with the Lubrizol Corporation and is an inventor who holds seven U.S. patents.

Mr. Cairns’s patent and trademark practice includes preparing and prosecuting U.S. and foreign patent applications, managing IP portfolios, clearing new products including patentability studies, enforcing U.S. and international IP, drafting and negotiating contracts, and supervising both U.S. and foreign outside preparation, prosecution, and litigation counsel. He represents clients from a wide array of technological fields, including electrical, optical, semiconductors, wireless connectivity, digital image acquisition and processing, mechanical and electromechanical, inks and toners, lubricants and lubrication additives, biotechnology, organic chemistries, elastomers, and petrochemical processing.

Mr. Cairns attended Massachusetts Institute of Technology, then transferred to Boston University to complete his Bachelor of Arts in biology. His Juris Doctorate is from The National Law Center, George Washington University. He is a registered patent attorney with the USPTO and is admitted to the District of Columbia Bar. Mr. Cairns is also a member of the Federal District Court, District of Columbia and Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
