Paul Silk Cooper, Esq. has been practicing law in New York State for over 20 years. Born in Staten Island, Paul moved to Rockland County when he was in 3rd grade, attending Strawtown Elementary, Clarkstown Junior High (now known as Felix Festa), and Clarkstown South High School, where he played Junior Varsity Hockey and Lacrosse.

After high school, Paul worked for a year for a commercial roofing company, doing hot tar roofing. The time spent working as a roofer taught Paul the value of hard, honest work. It also lead him to the realization that he wanted to pursuit a career involving at least one of his main areas of interest…business, politics and law.

Paul then enrolled in Rockland Community College, where he studied Business Administration. Graduating in 1989 with an Associate Degree in Science and a major in Business Administration, Paul transferred to the State University of New York at the University at Buffalo (UB, SUNY at Buffalo), where he worked his way through undergraduate school.

Graduating SUNY Buffalo in 1992, Paul felt drawn to pursue a career in law. Enrolling in Touro College in Huntington NY in the fall of 1993, Paul worked while attending classes and applied himself to his studies. During his final year at Touro, Paul interned at Queens County Legal Aid, Criminal Defense Division, where he gained a great working knowledge of the criminal court system and the practice of criminal law. At Touro, Paul felt his studies were properly preparing him for the eventual moment when he would take the NYS Bar Exam.

In June of 1996 Paul graduated from Touro, took the NYS Bar Exam, and passed on his first attempt. Paul S. Cooper, Esq. was admitted to the Second Judicial Department at the May 1997 term of the Second Judicial Department. Paul then spent a year practicing law in Brooklyn, with his primary focus on criminal work.

In 1998-1999 Paul decided to move back to Rockland. He expanded his area of practice to include the then booming real estate field. Paul spent several years closing loans for many institutional lenders, eventually opening his own title company, Northeast Settlement & Abstract, Inc. However, Paul, noticing the fluctuations in the real estate market, recognized that he needed to be more versatile, and able to function as a general practitioner.

To his existing criminal and real estate expertise, Paul has added knowledge in the fields of matrimonial/family law, bankruptcy and foreclosure work. Paul gets satisfaction from knowing that the work he does allows him to help others.

Whether it’s being able to get a homeowner a more affordable mortgage payment, give a financially struggling individual relief from their creditors, or helping a parent to be able to see their child and receive support, Paul believes he is paying forward the support he himself has received along the way to get to where he is today. Paul is dedicated to helping others, is a fierce competitor and does not believe in losing. Paul is a firm believer that anything worth doing is worth doing right and anything worth winning is worth fighting for.
