Description Mr.Cummings graduated from the University of Virginia Law School in 1964, and has been practicing continuously in Northern Virginia since then.Mr.Cummings began his career in Northern Virginia, first as an associate, and then as a partner with a small, prestigious law firm. The firm had primarily a litigation practice, and Mr. Cummings tried both civil and criminal cases for 11 years with that firm. In March 1975 Mr. Cummings was appointed by President Gerald Ford as the United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia. Mr. Cummings served in that capacity until June 1979, which included two years under President Jimmy Carter. In that position, Mr. Cummings supervised more than 30 Assistant United States Attorneys in three divisions. The range of cases included espionage, environmental pollution, murder, fraud of many types. The office also was charged with the defense of the United States in a wide variety of civil cases.In 1979, Mr. Cummings returned to private practice in Alexandria, where he has continued to represent clients in defense of criminal charges, and in complex civil litigation, both on the plaintiff and defense side. The firm is proud to have the distinction of being the only law firm to have successfully defended, in a jury trial, a person charged by the United States on the charge of espionage. Our philosophy is that every client deserves and receives our personal attention. We choose to remain small enough to keep that personal contact, but have the experience and expertise to handle the most sophisticated and complex cases, as well as cases of a less complex nature.
