John grew up in Acworth, Georgia, and he is a proud graduate of the University of Georgia. While in law school, he interned at the Oklahoma County Public Defender’s Office and the Oklahoma Pardon and Parole Board. After graduating law school with honors, John moved to Newnan to serve as an Assistant District Attorney at the Coweta Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office. Before leaving the District Attorney’s Office, John was promoted to Senior Assistant District Attorney.

While at the District Attorney’s office, John gained extensive trial experience as the lead prosecutor in over 2,000 felony criminal cases ranging from DUI and drug trafficking to child molestation, armed robbery, and murder.

He prosecuted cases from beginning to end, including preliminary hearings, presentments to the grand jury, arraignments, motions, the trial of the case, and the appeal, if any. Additionally, he handled thousands of other matters such as probation revocations, expungements/record restrictions, bond hearings, mental health hearings, pre-trial diversions, and removals from the sex offender registry. John had the opportunity to try numerous cases before both judges and juries.

John is also experienced in post-trial, appellate advocacy, having successfully argued cases before the Supreme Court of Georgia and the Court of Appeals of Georgia that resulted in published opinions in both courts.

Since leaving the DA’s Office, John practices heavily in the fields of Criminal Defense and Domestic Litigation, which includes divorce, legitimation, deprivation, guardianship, contempt of court, and paternity actions as well as modifications of alimony, child support, and child custody.

John is honored to be a member of the National College for DUI Defense. Membership requirements mandate specialized training in the field of DUI, references from attorneys with practices that focus on DUI cases, and that the member have substantial involvement in the practice area of DUI defense and related offenses. John is one of only a few attorneys in the area who is certified in Standardized Field Sobriety Testing. In addition, John has attended numerous courses focused on impaired driving and ways in which drugs and alcohol are absorbed, distributed, metabolized, and eliminated by the body.

DUI cases require substantial knowledge of blood testing (forensic toxicology), breath testing, police procedure, field sobriety testing, phlebotomy, and DUI case law. John has the background, training, and ability to challenge the issues with the state’s case against you.

John also takes general civil cases in all courts, including Magistrate Court actions such as landlord/tenant disputes and dispossessory actions.

In addition to litigation, John has corporate clients, whom he consults on all types of business issues, and he handles transactional matters, including the preparation of wills, powers of attorney, advanced health care directives, and contracts of all types.

John enjoys spending time with his family as well as playing the guitar, the banjo, and the bagpipes, which he plays in the Newnan based Oak Hill Pipes and Drums. John lives in Newnan with his wife and children.
