Lawrence A. DeAngelus is a principal attorney of Higgins, Roberts & Suprunowicz, P.C. and Chairman of the Real Estate Department. His practice concentrates in the areas of estate planning, estate administration, estate taxation, real estate transactions, and not-for-profit corporations. Larry joined the firm directly out of law school in 1999.

Larry earned his B.A. in English Literature from LeMoyne College, in Syracuse, N.Y. He holds a J.D. from Willamette University College of Law in Salem, Oregon, where he also received certification from the school’s nationally recognized Center for Dispute Resolution. He was admitted to the New York State Bar in January, 2000.

As Chair of the firm’s real estate department Larry is responsible for managing a 7-person team providing legal representation to individuals, businesses and mortgage lenders in residential and commercial real estate transactions. He also manages the firm’s title insurance business.

Professionally, Larry serves as general counsel to Ingersoll Place, an assisted living facility in Niskayuna. He was also general counsel to the Chamber of Schenectady County until its consolidation into the Capital Region Chamber in 2015, and then was invited to serve as the first general counsel of that organization for a term.

In published works, Larry has twice been a contributing author for Continuing Legal Education materials used for NYS Bar Association seminars on advanced estate planning topics. He also co-authored a leading article on estate tax apportionment published in the Trusts and Estates Section Newsletter in Spring, 2003.

Community service is a core value at the firm, and Larry has given his time to many worthwhile organization. He is currently a member of the Schenectady County Bar Association’s Real Property Committee, which he chaired from 2009 to 2015. He is also a member of The Federalist Society for Law and Public Policy Studies, the Catholic Lawyer’s Guild of the Albany Diocese, and the Estate Planning Council of Northeastern New York.

Larry has enjoyed being a director of the Schenectady Symphony Orchestra since 2008, currently serving as Vice-President and Chair of Funds Development. He also serves on the City of Schenectady Ethics Board, the Schenectady City School District Audit Committee, the Zoller Elementary PTO, and the Government Affairs Committee of the Capital District Chamber of Commerce.

Larry is a native of the City of Schenectady, and currently resides there with his wife, local attorney Karen DeAngelus, and their three daughters, Rachel, Sofia, and Adriana. He is the proud son of Gerald DeAngelus, founding partner of Slocum, DeAngelus & Associates, CPAs, and of Loretta DeAngelus, aka LaDeeDah and Dr. Gigglebritches, founding member of Clowns On Rounds, Inc. an organization dedicated to hospital clowning and humor therapy.
