Description |
Mr. DelVecchio grew up in the North Hills community of Pittsburgh and earned his law degree from The University of Tulsa School of Law in 1996. He earned his civilian litigation and trial experience representing injured people and small business owners with small claims to those to whom juries awarded multi-million dollar settlements and verdicts as a result of dangerous product failures and medical misadventures. Mr. DelVecchio began his legal career in the U.S. Army J.A.G. Corps in Europe, representing military members and their families with the many complicated legal issues that accompany a soldier’s overseas deployment. Captain DelVecchio also had the honor of serving with 1st Armored Division in Germany as its operational law attorney, deploying to Bosnia-Herzegovina as the legal advisor to the Joint Military Commission, a NATO entity overseeing implementation of the Dayton Peace Accords which ensured peace and protection to the people of Bosnia after its genocidal civil war. Captain DelVecchio served a second tour of duty in Europe defending soldiers at military courts-martials, garnering his first federal trial experience just a few years out of law school. After honorably completing his active duty military obligation in 2001, Mr. DelVecchio returned to Pittsburgh and began his civilian legal career defending medical malpractice claims. In 2004, he was again called upon to serve in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) as legal advisor to Long Island, New York’s 455th Military Police detachment, advising command and staff on international law governing the humane treatment of victims of war. After his service, and upon his return to civil practice, attorney DelVecchio was invited to join the law firm of Swensen, Perer & Kontos (SPK) and was afforded the privilege of representing hundreds of personal injury victims with their claims and settlements as well as at trial. In 2010, attorney DelVecchio established his own successful personal injury practice on the Northshore of Pittsburgh, The Law Office of Brian DelVecchio. In 2011 attorney DelVecchio joined with attorney Christopher M. Miller to form the partnership of DelVecchio & Miller, LLC, a law firm devoted to representing seriously injured accident victims. Mr. DelVecchio received his Bachelor’s Degree from Duke University in 1992 where he majored in English. Duke recruited him out of North Allegheny High School to be a member of their varsity wrestling team. Mr. DelVecchio was a co-captain of the 1988 North Allegheny High School National Champion wrestling team which earned the honor of being inducted into the 2009 Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League (WPIAL) Hall of Fame. Mr. DelVecchio earned his law degree in 1996 from The University of Tulsa School of Law, where he was a member of Law Review and Phi Delta Phi Legal Honor Fraternity. He served as a production editor for the University of Tulsa Law Journal and earned the dual distinctions of being selected for the Law Review and of being published in the Journal for his analysis of the constitutional right of press access to military operations. During law school, Mr. DelVecchio remained involved in wrestling as a volunteer assistant high school wrestling coach in Coweta, Oklahoma. Today, Mr. DelVecchio volunteers in public school settings as an assistant wrestling coach and reading instructor for Kindergarten students. Mr. DelVecchio was named a 2007 Rising Star by Super Lawyers magazine as a result of his devotion to his clients and volunteer activities in the Pittsburgh community. Mr. DelVecchio has given his free time to fundraising and volunteer efforts for the Muscular Dystrophy Association, Habitat for Humanity through the Western Pennsylvania Trial Lawyers Association (WPTLA), and the Pittsburgh Trails Advocacy Group (now Trail Pittsburgh, a not-for-profit organization). Mr. DelVecchio was instrumental in establishing PTAG as a 501(c)(3) and served as a founding board member and its first general counsel. In 2009, attorney DelVecchio was named a "Community Conservationist" by the Allegheny Land Trust (ALT) for his volunteer work in a community-based ALT land conservation project (preservation of 75 acres in the Irwin Run Creek watershed) that helped restore and preserve North Park’s lake. Attorney DelVecchio’s trail work in North Park led him to be named an International Mountain Bike Association (IMBA)-Fox Racing Shox Summer 2010 "Hero" for his efforts working with local mountain bikers to establish North Park’s, and Pennsylvania’s first, public freeride/downhill mountain bike trail. IMBA also selected attorney DelVecchio to lecture at its 2010 Lake Tahoe Trail Summit on the topic of working with public land managers to establish mountain bike trails throughout the U.S. |
