N. Joanne Foil is a Board Certified Family Law Specialist practicing law in the state of North Carolina since 1976. Ms. Foil is a well-known and respected family law attorney, practicing in Durham and Orange counties, handling cases involving custody, divorce, grand-parent custody, adoption, pre-marital agreements, and other family law related matters. She is also an experienced and respected family law mediator.

Ms. Foil attended law school at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Foil Law Offices was opened in the fall of 1976. Ms. Foil has received many honors and recognitions in her forty years of practicing law. Among these, she was the first female attorney from Durham to be elected to serve on the State Bar Council. As a member of the State Bar Council she served on various committees including the Grievance Committee for eight years. Following her service on the State Bar Council, Ms. Foil served as the State Bar Representative on the Dispute Resolution Commission for a full term.

Ms. Foil has for many years held Martindale-Hubbel’s highest attorney rating, A.V., and has been selected to be in "Super Lawyers" each year since the inception of the designation in North Carolina. She has served as an instructor at Duke University School of Law and has been a featured speaker at many continuing legal education seminars. She has also held several positions with the local Bar, served on the first advisory board of the Durham Technical Institute Paralegal Program, and has been covered in numerous newspaper articles and television interviews since early in her practice.

Ms. Foil has a hard-earned reputation of being diligent, thorough, and of not backing down from difficult and complicated cases. She has also taken on and won difficult cases involving children against odds, including international custody disputes, grandparent custody, foster-parent custody, and other situations that many would have deemed "un-winnable" or long shots at best. Ms. Foil has successfully represented clients in domestic matters at the North Carolina Court of Appeals and the North Carolina Supreme Court.
