Steven Fredley is a partner with the law firm of Harris, Wiltshire & Grannis LLP, where he focuses on white-collar criminal defense, government and internal investigations, and complex civil litigation.
Criminal Defense & Government Investigations. Mr. Fredley has represented corporate officers, board members, and individuals in a wide range of federal criminal investigations, including investigations related to international price-fixing cartels, violations of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, commercial bribery, campaign finance violations, fraud, and financial crimes. He has represented clients at both the trial and appellate level, and before grand juries and various branches of the Department of Justice. Mr. Fredley has advised foreign national clients that have been indicted or investigated by the U.S. government on substantive U.S. law and matters relating to extradition.
Civil Litigation. Mr. Fredley has served as both defense and plaintiff’s counsel and has been involved in all aspects of litigation, from initial case assessments, to trials and appeals. Mr. Fredley has appeared before federal and state courts throughout the U.S., as well as in arbitration proceedings. Mr. Fredley’s civil cases have included a wide range of substantive areas, including antitrust, class action, breach of contract, employment disputes, privacy, defamation, and telecommunications law.
Mr. Fredley was lead counsel in a landmark decision successfully challenging a perpetual exclusive video access arrangement under a 2007 Order of the Federal Communication Commission.Mr. Fredley obtained favorable results for a national health care consulting firm in a multi-million dollar contract dispute following two-week arbitration in Washington, D.C.Member of the trial team that obtained one of the largest Privacy Act recoveries in history and the complete vindication and exoneration of client wrongly accused of the 2001 anthrax attacks.
Mr. Fredley has dedicated his pro bono practice to representing victims of domestic abuse in civil protection matters before the D.C. Superior Court, Family Division. His work has also included assisting clients of domestic violence on issues related to child custody and visitation.
Mr. Fredley graduated magna cum laude from George Mason University School of Law where here served as Editor-in-Chief of the George Mason Law Review. Prior to joining Harris, Wiltshire & Grannis LLP, Mr. Fredley served as a law clerk for the Honorable Frank W. Bullock, Jr. of the United States District Court for the Middle District of North Carolina and was a member of the trial practice group of Jones Day in Washington, D.C.
Mr. Fredley was recently recognized in the 2014 edition of Washington, D.C. Super Lawyers for his professional achievements in White Collar Criminal Defense.
