Matthew L. Garcia is licensed to practice in the State of New Mexico, the U.S. District Court for New Mexico, and the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals. He represents clients in a number of different areas including civil rights, personal injury issues, consumer rights, class actions, and civil appeals.Matt graduated from the University of New Mexico School of Law where he was awarded the Bondurant Merit Scholarship and the Julia Raymond McCulloch award for excellence in Constitutional law. Prior to law school he completed graduate studies on a Fulbright Scholarship at the Helsinki School of Economics in Finland. He also holds a master’s degree from Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government.Matt’s work in published opinions include Flores v. Herrera, 2015-NMCA-072, 352 P.3d 695; Thomas v. Kaven, 765 F.3d 1183 (10th Cir. 2014); Aguayo v. AMCO Ins. Co., 59 F. Supp. 3d 1225 (D.N.M. 2014); Ruby v. Sandia Corp., 699 F. Supp. 2d 1247 (D.N.M. 2010); Jordan v. Allstate Insurance Company, 2010-NMSC-51, 149 N.M. 162; and Johnson v. Vigil-Giron, 2006-NMSC-51, 140 N.M. 667. He also co-authored the article “Iqbal is Not a Game-Changer for Discovery in Civil Rights Case” which was published in the University of New Mexico Law Review.In addition to a busy law practice, he is also on the board of directors for the New Mexico Trial Lawyer’s Association. Matt holds an “AV Preeminent” rating from Martindale-Hubbell. He was selected by Super Lawyers magazine as one of the legal community’s “Rising Stars” in 2012 and 2013, and he was selected as a “Super Lawyer” every year beginning in 2014. The publication also identified Matt as one of the “Top 25” lawyers in New Mexico. Best Lawyers of America® has also recognized Matt in the field of civil rights litigation and plaintiff-side personal injury litigation.
