Jamie is a lifetime Oregonian. She was born in Tualatin and raised in the Willamette Valley. Her father, Tom, was a DJ for many years with KISN-FM in Portland and, until his death in 1999, the radio and television spokesman for Fred Meyer. Her mother, Virginia, was a dedicated philanthropist and is the namesake of the Virginia I. Sznewajs Award for Palliative Care Nursing at OHSU. Since passing the bar, Jamie has dedicated her career to helping the people of Oregon. Her first position as a lawyer was as a deputy district attorney in Grants Pass, Oregon. There she prosecuted both violent and non-violent crimes and prosecuted protective court actions for children who had suffered abuse and neglect.

Jamie moved to Bend in 2006 where she continued as a Deputy District Attorney in the Deschutes County District Attorney’s Office. After leaving the District Attorney’s Office, she was an associate attorney for the family law firm of Stahancyk, Kent, Johnson, and Hook, LLP.

Jamie is an honor graduate of the University of Oregon School of Journalism with a B.A. in Public Relations and a minor in Business. While at the university, Jamie, was Director of Public Relations, ASUO. Jamie spearheaded a decision to bring solar power to the University’s EMU Amphitheatre. Jamie’s efforts resulted in replacing a projected 79,000 watts of the school’s annual power consumption with a renewable resource.

Jamie attained her law degree from Northwestern School of Law at Lewis and Clark College. While attending, she gained professional experience working in the Child Advocacy Section of the Oregon Department of Justice and at the Clackamas County Attorney’s Office. Jamie was also a member of the law school’s Regional Mock Trial Team where she distinguished herself as a talented courtroom advocate.

Jamie is an avid SCUBA diver and is currently holds a PADI Dive Master certification. She has dove in many places around the world such as the Great Barrier Reef in Australia, the Bligh Waters of Fiji, Maui and a little closer to home: Puget Sound. In 2010, she visited South Africa where she dove with Great White Sharks.

In March of 2007, Jamie rounded out her commitment to the legal system when she married Steve, a lawyer with Deschutes County Counsel.

Jamie’s Adventurous spirit is also at home in the greater outdoors where she enjoys backpacking. She has visited such places as the Grand Tetons in Wyoming, Idaho’s Sawtooth Mountain, and the Hells Canyon wilderness. Central Oregon provides the perfect backdrop for her with its variety of wilderness available for exploration.

When walking through beautiful central Oregon isn’t enough Jamie calls free-fall home. With more than a dozen jumps to her credit Jamie gleans a unique perspective of her two black and tan coon hounds, Roxy and Klanci. Yes, she skydives too.

Jamie is active in her community as Secretary of the Board for MountainStar Family Relief Nursery in Oregon and is a member of the Deschutes County Bar Association as well as the Hypoparathyroidism Association.
