Scott A. Hall joined Carney & Appleby, PLC as a law clerk during his first semester of law school in December 2006. Before law school Scott spent six years working for GMAC (General Motors) Financial Services in Iowa, Arizona, and Nevada, where he finished up his Master’s degree in Business Administration.

While attending Drake University Law School, Scott was an active participant of the Drake Law Review as a Junior and Senior Staff Member. Scott’s academic note was published by the Drake Law Review in December 2008. Scott A. Hall, In the Best Interests of the Child and the State: A Call for Expansion of Iowa’s Postsecondary Education Subsidy Law, 57 Drake L. Rev. 235 (Fall 2008); and it was later cited with approval by the Iowa Supreme Court in 2012. See In re Marriage of Vaughan, 812 N.W.2d 688, 692 (Iowa 2012).

Scott’s practice is centered around property rights. He practices in all areas of real estate, probate, estate planning, business, and civil litigation. Scott routinely balances both transactional matters and trial work. He is engaged in nearly every area of the law from personal injury and medical malpractice litigation to subrogation claims to business and property transactions both basic and complex. Scott’s background in business, research and writing, and trial work has allowed him to advocate for clients in many different venues with purpose and professionalism.

Scott is an active supporter of University of Iowa athletics, serving on the board of the Polk County I-Club. He also remains very active with his fraternity, Beta Theta Pi, serving on the Iowa chapter’s Alumni Board. As part of his efforts, and in honor of a slain fraternity brother, Scott serves as the Development Director for the Dan Holmstrom Memorial Scholarship which awards an annual scholarship to a University of Iowa undergraduate each Fall. Scott is also very active with the Iowa State Bar Association, Polk County Bar Association, Dallas County Bar Association, and the Iowa Association for Justice, holding various leadership positions within those groups. He also takes great pride in, and tries to remain active in his hometown of Brooklyn, Iowa.
