Brad Hornsby is a senior partner with Bulloch, Fly, Hornsby & Evans, which since its inception in 1975, has been, and continues to be widely regarded as one of the premier litigation firms. Mr. Hornsby has practiced law for over 30 years. In 1982, Mr. Hornsby began his legal career serving as the Judicial Clerk for the Honorable Ben H. Cantrell of the Tennessee Court of Appeals. In 1983, Mr. Hornsby began his military career in the Judge Advocate General Corps of the United States Air Force. At Brooks Air Force Base, TX, then Captain Hornsby served as an Assistant Staff Judge Advocate. Among his duties at Brooks AFB, Mr. Hornsby advised the Air Force Drug Testing Laboratory (AFDTL) and prosecuted military members in courts-martial proceedings. Mr. Hornsby thereafter served as an Area Defense Counsel (ADC) at Lackland Air Force Base, TX, the largest and busiest office in the Air Force. At Lackland AFB, he represented hundreds of individuals in courts-martial proceedings as well as thousands of military members in Article 15 actions, discharge proceedings, and other adverse actions. In 1987, Mr. Hornsby entered into the Air Force Reserves and returned to Murfreesboro to enter into private practice. For the last 18 years of his military service, Mr. Hornsby served as a Circuit Defense Counsel (CDC) assigned out of Travis Air Force Base, CA. During this time, then Lt. Col. Hornsby represented military members charged with virtually every offense under the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ) at practically every base west of the Mississippi River. Mr. Hornsby was assigned many high profile cases from successfully representing a Major General in a discharge action to a first degree murder client. Upon his retirement as a Lieutenant Colonel in 2007, he was the most experienced and successful court-martial practitioner in the Air Force, teaching at seminars to younger attorneys and representing clients in fully litigated criminal trials. Likewise in 1987, Mr. Hornsby returned to Tennessee to enter into private practice joining Bill Bullock, Ben Hall McFarlin, Jr (now General Sessions Judge of Rutherford County) and Frank Fly in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. The current focus of his practice is litigation. He is a frequent speaker at legal seminars about the Former Spouses’ Protection Act, the Servicemembers’ Civil Relief Act (formerly known as the Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Civil Relief Act), and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. He has tried literally thousands of cases in both state and federal courts. He has represented thousands of clients in family law cases in the Circuit, Chancery, and Juvenile Courts in Tennessee. He has also represented clients before juries in charges from DUI’s to first degree murder. He has also been actively involved in education law in high profile cases by successfully filing a Title IX claim for inequality for women athletes in Rutherford County, successfully getting a blind student into the Rutherford County schools, and successfully representing teachers falsely accused of improper acts. Mr. Hornsby has an undergraduate degree from Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU). He received his law degree from the University of Tennessee (UT). He is licensed to practice law in the state of Tennessee, the Middle and Eastern District Courts of Tennessee, the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Armed Services. He is a member of the Tennessee Bar Association and the Rutherford/Cannon County Bar Association. He is also vice chair of the Rutherford/Cannon County Bench and Bar Committee. Mr. Hornsby is married to Karen H. Hornsby, a staff attorney for the Tennessee Supreme Court. He has four children, Aubrey Pithwa, Allyson Hornsby, Austin Hornsby, and Trevor Hornsby. He has been actively involved in the community coaching soccer, baseball, and softball for over 18 years. He is past president of the Oakland High School Parent Association, Oakland High School Soccer Booster Club, and the Oakland Endzone Club. He is a member of Belle Aire Baptist Church. He is also a member of Blue Raider Athletic Association (BRAA). He is former recipient of the Pro Bono Attorney of the Year. |
