Attorney Michael K. Horowitz is a partner at Matheson, Horowitz & Devonmille where he provides aggressive legal representation and compassionate counsel to people who have suffered work related injuries, occupational diseases, or repetitive trauma at work, as well as representing individuals in Social Security matters and claims before the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Born in Miami, Florida, Michael is a native Floridian who has resided on the Treasure Coast since 1989. The Matheson, Horowitz & Devonmille law firm only represents injured and sick individuals and does not represent employers or insurance companies. Assisting injured citizens is Michael’s passion. What I love about the work that I do is we have an opportunity to help injured people who don’t know about the legal system, and who truly need our assistance," Attorney Horowitz says. The insurance companies will not protect the injured worker’s interests. It is essential that an injured worker have someone behind them who knows these insurance companies and their tactics. Michael has been handling these cases for over 26 years now on the Treasure Coast and throughout Florida, and knows every trick in the book.

Michael became interested in the law and justice at an early age. He attended Florida State University where he obtained a degree in political science with minor degrees in philosophy and theater, all essential ingredients to create the attorney Michael is today. Michael then attended Cooley Law School in Lansing, Michigan, where he was very active in Moot Court and won several awards and scholarships for his litigation skills.

Michael takes an aggressive approach to dealing with insurance companies and is never afraid to take a case to trial. Having tried hundreds of cases to their conclusion in his 26 years of practice, and handled many appeals, Michael believes that you have to be willing to go to Court to get the best results for your client. Any lawyer can "settle" a case. But is the attorney willing to do what is necessary to get full value on the claim? Most are not.

Michael also believes that the attorney must handle the case personally to get the best results for any client. Many lawyers never even meet their client until deposition or mediation or see the light on the courthouse steps. Horowitz handles every aspect of the case personally, and is always willing to meet with a client personally to discuss their case. Injured workers are frequently in the darkest time of their life dealing with their injury, medical treatment, loss of income, etc. Having an attorney to answer their questions, or simply talk about their problems, is essential to the attorney-client relationship.

"We fight for our clients to receive the best results possible, whether by trial or settlement, to secure lost wages and medical care. At the end of the case we can see how we have helped people and made a positive impact in their lives. That’s what’s most gratifying for us."

Michael also represents individuals before the Social Security Administration and the Department of Veterans Affairs representing members of our armed services. "Our servicemen and women have protected and served for us. Unfortunately, when they become disabled due to their service, the government is often not there for them." Michael is certified by the Department of Veterans Affairs to represent servicemembers in their claims before the VA.

Michael and his partners, Ted Matheson and Olivia Devonmille, a former workers compensation judge, formed their current law firm in 2000 with a very specific philosophy. "Large enough to meet your needs, but small enough to know we care." The office was never formed to be a case mill. We believe that representation must be personal and each case must receive the full attention it deserves to secure the best possible result.

Further, the law office of Matheson, Horowitz & Devonmille has an exceptional staff to assist you when you need help. "We have high standards in terms of our staff and how they communicate with our clients. We want our clients to get the information that they need in a professional manner. When the case is over, we want our clients to tell their friends and family about their positive experience at Matheson, Horowitz & Devonmille and that they received the best possible representation. We fight for our clients like they are our own family."

"Our names are on the door of our law office. It is very important that everything about our firm represents our commitment to our clients."

Michael is also very active in the community. "It is important to serve the community which has supported us." Michael has been active on the Sunrise Theatre Board of Directors, Foundation Board and Advisory Board since the theater’s inception, and remains passionate about it. Michael also sits on the Board of Directors for Florida Workers Advocates, an organization whose sole focus is to improve the existence of injured workers, and Friends of 440, an organization that provides college scholarships to individuals affected by the workers compensation system. He and his wife, Rhonda, along with their two daughters, live locally and work to give back to the community where they live. Michael is also and avid golfer and amateur chef.
