Jennings “Scott” Hucks, considers himself an “Horry Countian”. Born to a Myrtle Beach family, raised in the construction and motel businesses, and having experience in farming in the Adrian, Pee Dee, and Antioch areas of the county. Growing up all around the county, Scott developed real feelings for the future and development of Horry County. His concerns led him to participate and volunteer his time in the field of politics. Scott, by age 14, was volunteering for a myriad of political campaigns for candidates he believed would best serve the county. He has, as of today, volunteered his time in over 20 campaigns for office. After graduating from Conway High School, he enrolled in Coastal Carolina University. While At Coastal Carolina, he became a member of 13 different clubs and honor societies, including the Omicron Delta Kappa leadership honor society and the Order of Omega Greek honor society. In November, 2000, he became a member of Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity, where he still serves as chapter adviser. He was also responsible for planning and implementing a Phi Alpha Theta National History Honor Society conference at CCU. While at CCU, Scott was invited to, and accepted a position at, the United States White House Office of Presidential Correspondence in Washington DC for president George W Bush. It was this job that taught him valuable skills in dealing with people from all walks of life and varying backgrounds. It also helped him develop the skills to negotiate and reason with people in positions of power. After Graduating CCU in 2004, Scott enrolled and attended The University of South Carolina School of Law. While at USCLAW, Scott was involved In the Palmetto Law Society, the Federalist Society, and several community organizations. It was in law school that three life changing experiences happened for Scott. First, he was selected to be a member of a criminal practice clinic, where he was allowed, as a law student, to get into a court room and try cases for the first time. This started his lifelong interest in trial work. Secondly, he had a chance to work for the SC Department of Revenue and the SC Attorney General’s office in Alcoholic Beverage Licensing litigation and Tax Crime Prosecution. This Valuable Experience helped teach him perspective, detail, and attention to the letter and spirit of civil, administrative, and criminal law and procedure. Thirdly, he had the opportunity to come back home and work for the 15th Circuit Solicitor’s Office, Teaching him that lawyers really can make a difference in the local community. After graduation in 2007 and passing the bar in 2008, Scott became a full time Assistant Solicitor; having the opportunity to try dozens of cases, negotiate thousands of cases, and learn the intricacies of courtroom demeanor, trial strategy, case disposition. It also taught him the necessary skills to negotiate and dispose of hundreds of cases. Scott’s dedication to community has not wavered, as he has coached three state championship level mock trial teams at Forestbrook Middle school, two state championship level mock trial teams at Socastee High School, a former director of the Coastal Leadership Academy Public Charter High School, and remains a dedicated to the future of his Alma mater and Greek Life as the Chapter Adviser of the Eta Pi Chapter of Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity at Coastal Carolina University.
