Description When Maria Jaimes was fifteen years old, she knew she wanted to become an immigration attorney. As the youngest child of immigrant parents, Maria was the first person in her family born in the United States. Born and raised in Houston, Texas, Maria graduated cum laude from the University of Houston-Downtown in May 2006 with a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science. She graduated magna cum laude from Texas Southern University’s Thurgood Marshall School of Law in May 2009, and was admitted to the Texas State Bar the same year. While at Thurgood Marshall School of Law, Maria received numerous academic scholarships, studied abroad at the United Nations Universidad para la Paz in Ciudad Colon, Costa Rica, and received two (2) awards for receiving the highest grade in her appellate litigation and international taxation classes. During her second and third years of law school, Maria was a student attorney at Thurgood Marshall School of Law’s Earl Carl Institute for Social and Public Policy and the Probate and Wills clinic. After graduation, she began practicing law with the Law Office of Isaias Torres, where she has been an associate for several years. Maria is admitted to practice law in the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals and in the Southern District of Texas. In her spare time, Maria enjoys spending time with her friends, watching football and attending live sporting events, such as rooting for her hometown teams the Texans, Astros and Dynamo. Maria’s passion is traveling and she has visited over fifteen countries around the world including: Poland, Greece, Luxembourg, Honduras and the Netherlands. Maria also enjoys traveling to Mexico to visit her extended family when she can. Maria practices Immigration and Nationality law because she finds the work rewarding and feels that she is helping people achieve a dream that will change their lives.
