Thank you for your interest in our firm. My name is Nick Jonson and it would be my pleasure to assist you in helping resolve your legal matters. I concentrate my practice on family law as well as criminal defense. My family law practice is broad and includes all aspects of divorce including property division, child support, maintenance (spousal support), parenting time, decision-making, and relocations. My divorce practice includes handling complex property division matters which may involve business interests and family trusts as well as relocation and interstate custody issues. My family law practice also includes resolving parenting time, decision-making, and child support matters for parents who were never married. Such cases may include paternities or petitions to allocate parental responsibilities. In addition, my practice includes assisting clients with modifications of parenting plans as well as modifications of child support and maintenance. As children grow, and parents’ circumstances change, it often becomes important that parenting plans be modified to serve a child’s best interest. Similarly, as financial circumstances change, previous orders and agreements as to child support and maintenance often must be modified. Colorado law sets forth specific legal standards which must be met to make an initial determination as to parenting time, decision-making, child support and maintenance. However, Colorado law also sets forth specific legal standards governing modifications of parenting plans, child support, and maintenance. Through my years of experience in the courtroom, I am familiar with these legal standards as well as the complexities of all aspects of family law.

My criminal defense practice includes misdemeanors, felonies, as well as DUIs and DWAIs. I have handled many domestic violence cases which may involve charges of assault, harassment, or criminal mischief, among others. My criminal defense practice also includes child abuse cases. My practice has included defending clients I am representing in a divorce case from domestic violence or child abuse charges. There are important issues an attorney must understand when a parent is facing domestic violence or child abuse charges while a divorce action involving children is pending. I can help navigate my clients through these issues.

I began practicing law in January, 1995 and have worked in private practice since that time. I work hard to stay abreast of current law in my practice area and in the courts where I work.
