Maureen Kersey received her Juris Doctorate in Law, with honors, from Georgetown University Law School in 2001, and her Bachelor of Arts from Smith College in 1987. Though born and raised on Long Island, New York, Ms. Kersey became enamored with the Washington, DC area in 1985 while doing an internship on Capitol Hill, working for her former Senator, Alfonse D’Amato (R-NY). Upon graduation from college in 1987, Ms. Kersey returned to Washington, DC to take a job on the Tomahawk Cruise Missile Project at the Department of Defense. After two years, she moved to the F/A-18 fighter jet program, where she remained for the duration of her career with DoD. While on the F/A-18 program, Ms. Kersey worked first in contracts as part of the team that negotiated the annual billion dollar procurement of F/A-18s, and then was promoted to the program office, where she worked as both a subcontract manager and as a team lead for the FLIR/NAVFLIR systems that comprise the weapons targeting system. She traveled the world working Foreign Military Sales programs with participating countries, visiting squadrons deployed to foreign bases, and even completed the flight physiology and water survival training at the U.S. Marine Corps Base in El Toro, CA. to qualify to fly in the backseat of an F/A-18D, which she did in 1995. Ms. Kersey rose to the level of a GS-14 by the time she was 29 years old, received various awards and civilian commendations, graduated from the ACAT I Program Management School at Ft. Belvoir, VA, and was selected into the Senior Executive Management Development Program.In 1997, Ms. Kersey left the DoD to pursue her law degree at Georgetown. While attending law school, she began clerking for Piper & Marbury in Washington, DC in the summer of 1999, now DLA Piper, and one of the ten largest firms in the world.. Ms. Kersey graduated from law school in 2001 with honors, and joined DLA Piper’s Government Affairs practice group as an Associate Attorney in 2001. While at DLA Piper, Ms. Kersey counseled Fortune 100 clients on doing business with the government, and represented them in various litigation forums, from agency bid protest actions to litigation in the Court of Federal Claims. Ms. Kersey was initially admitted to practice law in Maryland in 2001, the District of Columbia in 2002, and eventually, to Virginia in 2004. In late 2004, Ms. Kersey left DLA Piper and in 2005 she began a local practice in Prince William County, becoming certified as a Guardian ad litem and concentrating initially in the area of family law, building upon her experience as a litigator. In March 2007, she joined Robert H. Klima, PC as his Associate Attorney, and continued to practice family law. While there, Ms. Kersey also began practicing criminal law, which she had concentrated much of her upper level coursework in while at Georgetown. In 2011, Ms. Kersey opened her own practice, concentrating in family law practice. Ms. Kersey is member of the Virginia Bar in good standing. Though previously admitted to practice in both Maryland and the District of Columbia, she now practice exclusively in Virginia, focusing primarily on Prince William and Fauquier counties, as well as other surrounding counties.
