Areas of Practice Medical Malpractice, Personal Injury

Josh Koskoff represents the third generation of Koskoffs at Koskoff Koskoff & Bieder. Known for his dedication, compassion, and creativity, Josh brings a fresh and unique perspective to all of his cases. He believes strongly in the role of the law as an agent to improve his clients’ lives and views the law as only working when it works for the people and not just the powerful. His personal concern for the welfare of each of his clients has won their trust and devotion.

Josh has won landmark verdicts in courtrooms throughout Connecticut. In 2016, he represented an 18-year-old woman who suffered an amputation of her lower left leg due to poor medical care and won a verdict of $25 Million from a Bridgeport jury. In 2009 he won a Connecticut record wrongful death verdict of $22.5 Million for the widow of a man who died of undiagnosed coronary artery disease. His other recent verdicts include a 2014 Waterbury jury verdict of $8 Million for a 45-year-old father of two girls who had untreated and unrecognized depression that led to his suicide; a 2014 record Danbury verdict of $12 Million for a 60-year-old woman whose surgery was botched by a resident at Danbury Hospital resulting in severe permanent damage; a 2013 $6.5 Million verdict for a failure to treat dehydration resulting in the death of a 44-year-old man also at Danbury Hospital; and in 2016, a $12 Million New Haven verdict for the death of a 55-year-old man who was not treated properly for a dependence on an anxiety medication, which resulted in his suicide.

Josh has participated in other high profile cases that do not involve bad medical care. He is currently representing families of victims of the Sandy Hook shooting. He also represented the Hartford Hospital respiratory therapist badly injured in the notorious med-evacuation helicopter crash on 1-91 while responding to an accident and obtained a multi-million dollar settlement on her behalf. Josh was called upon to represent a minor league baseball player who suffered a career ending injury in a well-publicized "bat attack" by a former major league all-star during a professional baseball game. He also provided pro bono legal services to families that lost love ones on 9/11.

In addition to trying these important cases and others, Josh has handled many other complicated cases that he successfully resolved through substantial settlements on behalf of his clients. Like the verdicts he has obtained, these settlements have helped his clients to have better and more satisfying lives, and helped to bring peace and closure to families who have lost loved ones.

Josh was recently named Connecticut’s 2017 Lawyer of the Year by the Connecticut Law Tribune that singled out Josh’s work on behalf of families who lost loved ones in the Sandy Hook school shooting. Also in 2017, Josh was invited to become a member of the Inner Circle of Advocates – an elite group limited to the top 100 of the nation’s trial attorneys. He is the recipient of the Connecticut Law Tribune New Leader of the Law award, editor of the first CT Personal Injury Forms book, and has served on the Board of Connecticut Legal Services, an organization dedicated to helping Connecticut’s poorer citizens gain legal representation in civil cases. He is a frequent lecturer on matters related to trial practice, both locally and nationally.
