Description Kara Lee has a passion for helping people going through difficult times. She works vigorously for her clients on each and every case that she touches. Her goal is to obtain the best outcome for her clients, while also providing them with a sense of peace and a clear path through what is often an incredibly stressful and challenging time. Her detail-oriented and well-researched approach to the myriad issues that arise during the course of litigation provide both clients and judges with assurance they need to make good decisions.In her 10-plus years in the family law field, Kara has litigated, mediated and settled cases dealing with a variety of complex issues, including adultery, divorce, spousal support, same-sex divorce, child custody, marital settlement agreements, military divorce, high asset divorce, contempt and other post-divorce issues, modifications and terminations of support, spousal support, child support and equitable distribution of marital property.Prior to law school, Kara received her bachelor’s (magna cum laude) and master’s degrees in English from Virginia Tech. She taught English courses at Clemson University and at Virginia Tech before attending law school. She began her career at Maddox & Gerock in May 2010 (when the firm was known as The Maddox Law Firm, P.C.). When she obtained her Juris Doctor from George Mason University and her license to practice law, she joined the firm as an associate attorney. She is also a graduate of the National Trial Advocacy College at the University of Virginia, the country’s premier trial advocacy program for lawyers. Now, Kara is a partner at the firm. As a child of a kindergarten teacher for the Department of Defense school system, Kara had the unique opportunity to live in the Netherlands, Norway, Belgium and Germany prior to moving to the United States for her junior year of high school. She has traveled extensively in Europe and lived in Seoul, South Korea, as an adult. Because of her international background, Kara is drawn to international family law. Her diverse experiences growing up in different countries have sharpened her ability to see an issue from all sides and to determine the best course of action for her clients.Kara presently serves as a board member for the Fairfax Bar Association Board of Directors. She has formerly served as president of the Fairfax Bar Association Young Lawyers Board, and as the Statewide Membership Coordinator of the Virginia Bar Association Young Lawyers Division. Kara has arranged and moderated Continuing Legal Education courses through her leadership positions and regularly volunteers through local legal organizations. She is a member of the family law sections of the Virginia State Bar and the Fairfax Bar Association. In her free time, Kara loves to cook, hang out with her French bulldog, Koda, and enjoy all the culture and experiences (art, restaurants, festivals, museums) that the Washington, D.C., area has to offer!
