John Libra is an attorney in Korein Tillery’s Chicago office. John received his J.D. from Washington University in St. Louis, and his undergraduate degree in Political Science / International Relations and English from Carleton College. John and is licensed to practice law in Illinois, Missouri, and the District of Columbia, as well as the U.S. District Courts for the Northern and Southern Districts of Illinois. His practice is focused on complex civil litigation, and he is also part of Korein Tillery’s growing securities and antitrust practice group that represents major institutional and governmental clients across the country.

Since joining Korein Tillery, John has represented clients at the trial and appellate level in a wide range of state and federal cases, including cases brought under state consumer fraud acts, ERISA, RESPA, and the securities laws. John led Korein Tillery’s legal team representing a group of airline pilots in a class action suit (Mansfield, et al. v. Air Line Pilots Ass’n, Int’l., Case No 06-C-6869 (N.D. Ill.) against their union alleging a breach of the duty of fair representation in connection with the termination of the pilots’ pension plan and the union’s allocation of funds. Shortly before trial, the defendants agreed to a settlement believed to be one of the largest – if not the largest – recovery in a breach of fair representation case. In 2013, he tried two cases with Steve Tillery (Chultem v. Ticor Title Insurance Company, Case No. 06-CH-09488 (Ill. Cir. 2006) and Colella v. Chicago Title Insurance Company, Case No. 06-CH-09489 (Ill. Cir. 2006)) contesting the legality of “attorney agent” programs operated by two prominent title insurance companies in Illinois, and seeking to recover the title insurance companies’ payments of hundreds of millions of dollars in alleged kickbacks. Those cases are on appeal. Currently, John represents several clients in litigation arising from the collapse of the mortgage-backed securities market.
