Areas of Practice

Chris Mattei is a trial lawyer. His areas of focus include civil rights, products liability, whistleblower actions, securities fraud and election law. Over the past several years, Chris has been called upon to handle some of the highest profile trials in the State of Connecticut. Described by one New York Times reporter as an "incredible powerhouse lawyer," Chris’s practice is devoted to protecting individuals and the public from corporate and institutional abuse. Chris joined Koskoff in October 2015.

Prior to joining Koskoff, Chris served as Chief of the Financial Fraud & Public Corruption unit with the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Connecticut. As Chief, Chris supervised the work of 12 federal prosecutors, and oversaw white-collar, federal criminal investigations and prosecutions in the State of Connecticut. Chris also directed the Connecticut Public Corruption Task Force, a multi-agency investigative unit tasked with combating corruption at all levels of government, which grew out of several of Chris’s high-profile corruption prosecutions.

As a public corruption prosecutor, Chris prosecuted a variety of election and campaign finance offenses. In 2014, Chris helped prosecute former Governor John G. Rowland and others on campaign finance and obstruction of justice charges. Prior to that, Chris investigated and prosecuted a conspiracy of eight individuals, including Robert Braddock Jr., the finance director for a United States Congressional campaign, for campaign finance and bribery offenses. Most recently, Chris prosecuted high-ranking public officials for accepting kickbacks and engaging in fraud. Chris has also investigated and prosecuted broker-dealers, tax preparers and others for defrauding investors and clients. In addition, Chris supervised ground breaking securities fraud prosecutions against broker-dealers who had engaged in fraudulent trading of residential mortgage backed securities in the aftermath of the 2008 financial crisis.

Prior to law school, Chris worked as a high school teacher at the Rough Rock Community School on the Navajo Reservation in Northern Arizona. Chris also previously worked as an organizer with the Service Employees International Union.
