"Katie" was born in Washington, D.C. but was raised in South Louisiana. She graduated from Middle Tennessee State University with a bachelor’s degree in Recording Industry Management with a concentration in Music Business and a minor in business administration. Katie first gained a taste for litigation during a college internship at King & Ballow, where she focused on entertainment law and intellectual property litigation. She also interned at Brand X Management, an artist management company, where she worked closely with the owner in reviewing management agreements, and performing social media tasks for clients and other general artist management duties.

Passionate about music and the arts, she went on to law school to study entertainment law and intellectual property. While earning her juris doctorate at Florida Coastal School of Law, she served all three years on the executive board of the school’s Entertainment Law Society. As a member of the "e-board," Katie was responsible for organizing numerous panels that discussed entertainment and IP-related topics, as well as ethical and professional issues within the industry. During law school, she interned at Colton Entertainment group, a Nashville-based independent music publishing company and law firm, where she learned the ins and outs of music publishing, as well as music transactional law. Katie also interned in the business and legal affairs department of Web.com. While at Web.com, she focused on licensing agreements, partnership agreements, secured transaction issues, and helped draft the company’s privacy policies and end-user license agreements.

After being sworn into the Tennessee bar in November 2013, Katie worked briefly at Bone McAllester Norton PLLC, where she focused on litigation and research.
