Loann Smith Meekins grew up as an "army brat," living all over the world, and attending 11 schools before graduating from Westover Senior High School in Fayetteville, North Carolina. As a Juliet Hamlet Harris Scholar, she graduated cum laude from Meredith College in 1985, earning her Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Work and Religion. Ms. Meekins fulfilled her social work field placement requirement by working as an intern at Interact, an organization similar to Cleveland County’s Abuse Prevention Council, assisting as a court advocate and counseling with victims of domestic violence.

Ms. Meekins earned her Juris Doctorate from Campbell University School of Law in 1988. While at Campbell, she was a member of and served as Articles Editor for Campbell Law Review, competed as a member of the National Moot Court team, earned a merit scholarship, and was inducted into Omicron Delta Kappa. As a third year law student, Ms. Meekins was appointed and served as Attorney General for the students of Campbell University.

Since graduating from law school, Ms. Meekins has enjoyed her work in a variety of legal settings. She was an associate for Patterson, Dilthey, Clay, Cranfill, Sumner & Hartzog, in Raleigh, N.C. She conducted insurance defense work, including workers’ compensation. She was an Adjunct Professor for Campbell University School of Law teaching Legal Research and Writing and Expository Writing. She was also Assistant District Attorney in Cleveland County for juvenile cases.

Ms. Meekins joined Teddy, Meekins & Talbert again in May 2011 and has primarily worked with clients involved in Department of Social Services and child support matters, domestic and juvenile matters, social security claims, and guardianship proceedings. She was certified as a Civil Superior Court Mediator by the Dispute Resolution Commission.

She is a member of the North Carolina Bar and Cleveland County Bar Associations, the North Carolina Advocates of Justice, and is admitted to practice before the United States District Court for the Eastern, Middle, and Western Districts.

Ms. Meekins considers her biggest blessings to be Ralph, her husband of 30 years, along with her two children and daughter in law.
