Description Ms. Tami Mitchell retired from the U.S. Army after 20 years of service as a Judge Advocate. She was the first U.S. Army JAG officer to serve as a prosecutor, defense counsel, Special Victims Counsel, government appellate counsel, and Law Instructor. Ms. Mitchell was born and raised in Ladysmith, Wisconsin. In 1992, she graduated from the University of Wisconsin—La Crosse with honors, earning her Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science. She earned her law degree from Marquette University Law School in 1996, and accepted a direct commission into the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General’s Corps. Ms. Mitchell served at military installations around the country, including Fort Bliss and Fort Hood, Texas; Fort Bragg, North Carolina; Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington; Fort Carson, Colorado; and Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. She served in the National Capital Region for several years, including an assignment at the Pentagon. Ms. Mitchell also served overseas in South Korea near the DMZ, and deployed to Kabul, Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. In 2005, she earned a Master of Laws degree in criminal law from the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General’s Legal Center & School in Charlottesville, Virginia.Ms. Mitchell successfully litigated hundreds of criminal cases at both the trial and appellate levels, including several high-profile cases involving Abu Ghraib and drill sergeant sexual misconduct. She was rated as the U.S. Army Government Appellate Division’s most prolific author and best practice judge. During her Afghanistan deployment, she served key roles as a legal advisor to the command and an investigating officer in the case featured in the Rolling Stone article, “Another Runaway General,” in which two wayward field grade officers falsely accused Lieutenant General William B. Caldwell IV of reprisal and ordering “psychological operations” on U.S. senators and other dignitaries. Ms. Mitchell’s legal acumen resulted in the resolution of this high-profile case in favor of the command at the U.S. Army, U.S. Department of Defense, and Congressional levels. Ms. Mitchell’s JAG career culminated with her assignment to the U.S. Army Military Police School (USAMPS), where she was rated as one of the best Law Instructors at USAMPS in 25 years. She honorably retired from the U.S. Army in 2016.Ms.Mitchell is a recognized expert in sexual assault litigation, particularly in cases alleging mental, drug, and alcohol-induced “incapacitation.” She is also a certified Instructor and a graduate of the Special Victims Capability Course at Fort Leonard Wood, MO, where she received specialized training and instruction in investigating and litigating military sexual assault cases.Ms.Mitchell is licensed to practice law in the states of Wisconsin and Colorado. She is a member of the bars of the state of Wisconsin, federal District Court of Colorado, federal Eastern District of Wisconsin, Army Court of Criminal Appeals, Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces, and the United States Supreme Court.As a Wisconsin native, Ms. Mitchell is an avid “Cheesehead”—a euphemism for a Green Bay Packers fan. However, she is no ordinary “Cheesehead.” She is also an owner of the Green Bay Packers, the only publicly-owned franchise in the National Football League.
