Lawyer Firm: Wise Morrissey Kaveny LLC
|Areas of Practice||Wrongful Death, Professional Malpractice, Personal Injury|
Brian Monico has had a broad range of hands-on trial experience and is a skilled and poised litigator who focuses on wrongful death, professional malpractice and personal injury cases. He has tried 11 jury trials (10 to verdict), all successfully, and several as first chair. Four of these cases resulted in awards of between $1.5 million and $6.2 million to his clients, and he has also effectively negotiated more than $5 million in settlements. In each of these trials he has had major responsibility for witness preparation and presentation of witness testimony at trial.
Integral to his trial success is that Brian has distinguished himself as a leader in the development and use of computer-generated graphics and electronic presentations in the courtroom, using a wide array of computer-generated courtroom graphics to assist expert witness preparation and in presentations to the jury. Reflecting his capabilities in this area, he is an adjunct professor at his alma mater, Loyola University Chicago School of Law, where he teaches Advanced Trial Advocacy with Courtroom Technology.
In cases that involve complex or unusual technical issues, Brian's ability to research and master the nuances gives his clients a distinct advantage. He is skilled at simplifying and explaining complicated concepts and presenting them in a convincing case to juries and judges. His willingness and ability to delve into technical details is unusual in a trial lawyer. Just as important, Brian has an exceptional capability for relating to and empathizing with his clients, in ways that are quickly apparent in his personal attention at trial. When combined with his persuasive courtroom strengths, it makes him a vigorous and effective advocate in litigation.
Brian's effectiveness as a litigator led the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin to select him for inclusion in its 2011 "40 Under 40" Illinois attorneys to watch recognition. He also received recognition from his professional peers in his selection as an Illinois Super Lawyers "Rising Star"® (2012 – 2013). His professional activities emphasize his litigation skills, particularly as First Vice President of the Young Professionals Board of the Center for Disability and Elder Law (an organization providing legal services to low-income elderly persons) and as an active panelist-speaker for programs of the Chicago Inn of Court. Brian honed his trial capabilities at the start of his career by serving as a Judicial Extern for Chief Judge Charles P. Kocoras, U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, and by working in the CookCountyState's Attorney's Office, assigned to the Criminal Appeals Division.
