Shawn is a passionate advocate for causes that advance and improve the lives of women, men, mothers, fathers, children, and families in her commnity. She is an active community volunteer and has served as a domestic violence crisis counselor with Catalyst Domestic Violence Services, regularly provides pro bono assistance through programs offered at the William R. Ridgeway Family Relations Courthouse in Sacramento such as the Family Law Clinic and the One Day Divorce Program, and volunteers as a driver and food collector for the Chico Food Project, an organization that collects food donations and distributes them to local food pantries year round.

Prior to joining MOBO, Shawn was attorney for a law firm in Gold River, California, where she practiced exclusively family law. She also worked as a law clerk with a civil justice law firm where she provided support with class action and mass tort cases.

Shawn earned her J.D. from McGeorge School of Law, where she graduated with distinction. While in law school, she served as Chief Articles Editor of the McGeorge Law Review, volume 46. As a staff writer, her comment, The Supreme Court’s revitalization of the of the Dying "Existing Indian Family” Exception was selected for publication. She was also the recipient of numerous academic achievement scholarship awards, was admitted to the law school with honors, and was inducted into the Traynor Society and Phi Delta Phi for academic excellence. Additionally, Shawn spent a semester as a judicial extern for the Honorable Jamie R. Ramon in Sacramento County Superior Court. Shawn also served as an intern with the Children’s Law Center in Sacramento, a law firm that dedicates itself to representing children in dependency and child abuse proceedings.

During law school, Shawn served on the Board of Directors of the Butte County chapter of the League of Women Voters, as the Director of Voter Service. While serving as a director, she participated in the Civic Learning Initiative’s, California Task Force on K-12 Civic Learning, a historic partnership between California’s judicial branch and the Education Department and whose goal is to revitalize K-12 civic education. She also organized and moderated televised candidate debate forums during the election season of 2014, which included the reelection campaign of U.S. Representative Doug LaMalfa, of the 1st District of California.

Prior to law school, Shawn earned her B.A. in Psychology at California State University, Chico. After returning to CSU, Chico in 2011, she earned a M.A. in Political Science and International Relations with Highest Distinction. While there, she also served as a graduate student teacher, and later as an adjunct Professor of Political Science, teaching political research and writing.

At MOBO, Shawn concentrates her practice almost exclusively on family law issues, including child custody, child and spousal support, divorce litigation, property division, premarital agreements, parentage, and guardianships. She provides services to clients all over Northern California including handling cases in Sacramento and Placer counties, as well as El Dorado, Butte, Tehama, Yuba, and Yolo counties. Shawn is committed to providing results orientated and compassionate legal representation for clients and families who are often experiencing turmoil and uncertainty in their personal lives.
