Amanda N. Murray graduated Cum Laude from Eastern Michigan University with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. She went on to pursue her legal degree at Western Michigan University Thomas M. Cooley Law School where she graduated in 2012 in the top 10% of her class with a Juris Doctorate, concentrating in Litigation.

During her law school career, Amanda served as an Associate Editor on the Thomas M. Cooley Law Review. She then became a Managing Associate Editor and a Teaching Assistant in a Scholarly Writing course. She also received Certificates of Merit in the Pre-Trial Skills class and the Wills, Trusts, and Estates class.

Before joining Bassett Law, Amanda served as a Judicial Extern for the Honorable Avern Cohn at the Federal U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan. From 2010 to 2012, Amanda served as Judicial Intern for the Honorable J. Cedric Simpson at the 14A-1 District Court in Washtenaw County. Amanda has also served as a Law Clerk for the Michigan Poverty Law Program and a volunteer at the State Appellate Defender’s Office. Additionally, she has earned the 40-hour Civil Mediation Certificate.

Amanda joined Bassett Law in 2013 and focuses her practice on Elder Law, Probate and Estate Administration, Adoption, Medicaid Planning, Estate Planning, LGBT law, and Assisted Reproduction Technology. She also serves as a Guardian, Conservator, and Trustee for multiple individuals throughout the community. She serves clients throughout Michigan and has practiced in courts throughout the counties of Wayne, Washtenaw, Livingston, Monroe, Oakland, Jackson, Lenawee, Hillsdale, and Branch.

Amanda is a member of and actively involved in the Elder Law and Disability Rights Section of the State Bar of Michigan. She is a member of the Washtenaw County Bar Association, the Probate and Estate Planning Section of the State Bar of Michigan, and the Children’s Law Section of the State Bar of Michigan. Amanda has been a speaker at the Elder Law and Disability Rights Conference on the Defense of Marriage Act, has been a presenter throughout the community on Estate Planning and has co-authored “Representing the Elder or Disabled Same-Sex Spouse”, an article published in the Res Ipsa Loquitor.

Amanda grew up in Belleville, Michigan. She has lived in New York City and San Francisco but returned to Michigan to care for her father. She now lives here in Washtenaw County with her husband and three children.
