Jeffrey A. Newman represents individual whistleblowers and victims of violent crime, including sexual abuse. A former criminal prosecutor with more than 20 years of experience as a trial attorney, Jeff has successfully argued some of the most difficult and complex legal cases, winning large settlements on behalf of his clients. He was co-lead counsel for more than 400 of the victims of clergy abuse in the Boston Archdiocese cases, resulting in an $85 million settlement and revealing a worldwide sexual abuse scandal within the church.

Jeff has also handled a variety of complex claims involving whistleblowers, including one against a major drug company, resulting in a $35 million settlement, as well as a case involving Boston’s Big Dig, and a case concerning a military contractor. In addition, Jeff has tried a number of cases to jury verdict including negligent security cases for victims of rape and child sexual abuse, college rape, a bombing in a building, and various complex commercial matters.

He also represents online publishing companies for their intellectual property, First Amendment, and litigation work. Jeff is outside counsel to, an international news company headquartered in Boston.

Jeff obtained his MBA from Suffolk University in May 2009. Before becoming a trial lawyer, he was a reporter and photojournalist. Jeff was featured in Norman Mailer’s novel Executioner’s Song about his reporting on the execution of Gary Gilmore. He investigated the death of JFK for more than a year and also interviewed Charles Manson in Vacaville prison.

Jeff is currently writing his second book on whistleblowers, which he expects to be published in October 2010.
