Areas of Practice Personal Injury – Plaintiff
Description

As the firm’s newest partner, John brings a unique legal background to our practice. In the decade before joining the firm, John provided transactional and litigation based services for individuals and corporate entities based in and around Central Kentucky, executed residential and commercial real estate dealings throughout Kentucky, and was engaged as general counsel in Kentucky and Tennessee for multiple financial service clients. When he started his own practice in 2006, John determined that trust is the most important part of every relationship, and that his duty would be to earn and honor this trust by open communication, respectful guidance, and ethically-attained results. John observed early in his practice that effective, results-driven representation resulted in good outcomes for his clients, and over time became a reliable advocate to parties from all backgrounds. Because of his focus on earning his clients’ trust, his practice grew rapidly and almost exclusively from client referrals.

John was born and raised in the small Eastern Kentucky town of Russell, "one of the shining jewels in the crown of Greenup County." This interdependent, closely-knit community instilled in John the basic principles of decency, diligence, and perseverance that are the foundation of his law practice in Lexington. John is driven by the awareness that accidents, misfortune, and wrongdoing exist in his community. His sole focus is representing clients who have been victimized by such unfortunate events.

John is a graduate of Russell High School. He earned varsity letters in basketball, golf, track, and cross country.

While an undergraduate at the University of Kentucky, John was an officer of the collegiate honors association Lambda Pi Eta, and for three years was a public "face" of UK as the Wildcat mascot. John was a member of the AcoUstiKats, UK’s all-male a cappella musical ensemble and worked as a student-athlete tutor through the C.A.T.S. program.

John studied law at Regent University in Virginia Beach, Virginia, and upon graduation, spent a year as the staff attorney for Judge Pamela R. Goodwine in the Fayette Circuit Court. This experience gave John an inside view of the workings of the Court system where he now represents clients. Rounding out his legal experience, John then worked for a firm representing insurance companies and their clients, before starting his own real estate practice.

Although John valued the opportunity and challenge of insurance defense litigation, the desire to serve individual clients in his community led him to start Norman Law Group. NLG grew quickly and John and his staff of four full-time employees merged with the Lexington law firm of Thurman, White & Anderson, where John was welcomed as a partner and remained until joining Garmer & Prather. This varied experience helps John see his clients’ cases through the eyes of almost everyone involved in the process.

John and his wife, Alecia, also an attorney, reside in Lexington with children Lottie Ann, CeCe, and Harry. They attend Southland Christian Church, where John plays guitar in the worship band.
