Areas of Practice Family Law, Divorce, Custody

Elisa Maloff Reiter is licensed to practice in multiple jurisdictions (Texas, New York, the District of Columbia and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts). A seasoned litigator, she has focused on family law cases for the majority of her practice. Her background in general litigation spawned a passion for family law, where she has used her skills to attempt to preserve estates, and the most precious asset of all: children.

Hanging out her own shingle in January, 1990, she has built a reputation based on offering personal service, pulling in a network of colleagues as needed to facilitate cost effective representation. While she is a solo practitioner, her network is based on more than thirty years’ experience in the Metroplex, building relationships that offer the client added value: as needed, she associates some of the strongest colleagues in the area in forensic accounting, psychology, private investigation, estate planning, intellectual property and tax matters.

Martindale Hubbell has listed Elisa Reiter as an "AV" rated litigator in excess of twenty years. Mrs. Reiter is a member of the State Barof Texas, the Dallas Bar Association and the American Bar Association, as well as of the Family Law Sections of each of these organizations. She is a Fellow of the State Bar College.

Mrs. Reiter is not only a certified mediator and collaborative lawyer, she taught mediation and family law in Southern Methodist University’s Dispute Resolution Program, and its predecessor, the SMU Continuing Education Program. In those venues, she helped educate hundreds of individuals seeking accreditation in mediation, be they lawyers, mental health professionals, law enforcement professionals, human resource managers, and/or those simply seeking ways to help manage relationships and bridge impasses in times of crises.

Mrs. Reiter received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Political Science (with Departmental Distinction) and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English, both cum laude, from Southern Methodist University (SMU) in 1980. She graduated from SMU with her undergraduate degrees at the age of 19. She graduated from SMU Law at the age of 22.

Elisa Reiter’s trademark: TENACITY.

Mrs. Reiter entered private practice after graduating from law school. She worked as an associate attorney for John J. Diggins, P.C. (theretofore a solo practitioner), the firm of Bedsole & Bird (at B&B, her case load included general litigation and family law matters), to the firm of Seeligson, Douglass, Falconer, Vanden Eykel, Steinberg and Solomon. At Seeligson, she was privileged to work for and with Ike Vanden Eykel and Mary Johanna McCurley, two of the top family litigators in Texas.

Elisa Reiter’s skills as a family law specialist have brought her recognition by her peers, apart from the appreciation of clients. She served on the Texas Family Law Exam Commission (TFLEC) for seven years (2002-2007), the committee charged with writing and grading the examinations for lawyers seeking accreditation as Family Law Specialists by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. Mrs. Reiter ultimately served as Chairperson of TFLEC.

Elisa Reiter presently serves on the Board of Directors of the Texas Board of Legal Specialization, having been appointed to a second term by Buck Files, President of the State Bar of Texas. Mrs. Reiter’s initial term was from 2010 to 2012. Each TBLS Board term is three years in duration. The Board of Directors of TBLS oversees experts seeking certification in one or more select areas of Texas Law. TBLS was established in 1974 by the State Bar of Texas to "promote the availability, accessibility and quality of the services of attorneys to the public in particular areas of the law. . . and advance the standards of the legal profession."

There are over 70,000 attorneys in Texas. Only 7,000 have earned accreditation to be publicly recognized as a Board Certified Specialist. If you have a family law issue, you need a specialist — and Elisa Reiter is the lady lawyer for you.
