An Associate in Cramer & Anderson’s Danbury office, Attorney Lisa M. Rivas focuses on Immigration Law and passionately aids clients in navigating the sea of immigration complexities.

From removal proceedings, asylum interviews and family petitions to employment petitions for individuals with extraordinary ability or achievement, National Visa Center processing and Consular processing, Attorney Rivas summons her experience and deep knowledge of Immigration Law to deftly handle issues for clients.

Attorney Rivas’ practice includes experience with Special Immigrant Juveniles (SIJ) Status, the program designed to help foreign children in the U.S. who have been abused, abandoned, or neglected by one or both parents. She has been successful in fighting the deportation of immigrant children in such situations through asylum or SIJ proceedings.

Attorney Rivas, who is bilingual, has also logged successful outcomes in cases in which victims of domestic violence were facing deportation because they fled the abusive situations in their home country.

In her work, Attorney Rivas has represented clients from across the world, primarily Latin America and the Caribbean.

Closer to home, her advocacy extends to volunteer and pro bono efforts that have earned Attorney Rivas notable honors and awards, including a 2016 New Leaders in the Law award from The Connecticut Law Tribune. She was among just 37 winners of the award statewide.

As a volunteer at the Hispanic Center of Greater Danbury for more than five years, Attorney Rivas teaches a citizenship course she made so popular it has gone from being offered once a year to four times annually. She teaches two of those four classes herself.

Attorney Rivas also gives free talks on immigration issues that extend to benefits, drivers’ licenses and more. To honor her volunteer work, the Hispanic Center of Greater Danbury gave Attorney Rivas its Above and Beyond Award in June 2016.

Attorney Rivas is also a member of the Executive Committee of the Latino Scholarship Fund, Inc., which awards scholarships to graduating high school seniors.

In addition to her work in Immigration Law, Attorney Rivas’ Practice Areas include Workers’ Compensation, Divorce & Family Law, Personal Injury Law, and Criminal Law.

She lives in New Milford with her family.
