Burke Robinson is a partner and co-founder at Long & Robinson, LLC. Burke truly enjoys being an attorney. He still gets excited when a new or complex issue comes across his desk and is not afraid to get his hands dirty to find the right answer, not just the easy answer. In every case, he strives to carefully attack problems and maximize the value clients receive – whether by reducing risk, protecting the bottom line or securing justice. Legal disputes are proactively pushed (rather than pulled) to favorable resolution so clients can get back to focusing on what they do best.
Throughout his career, Burke has successfully litigated numerous multimillion-dollar construction defect and payment/delay claims through arbitration and before state and federal courts. He has also foreclosed on millions of dollars worth of mechanics liens on commercial and pipeline properties.
Burke’s clients include commercial real estate brokers, property managers, developers, owners, contractors, suppliers, sureties and condominium homeowners’ associations. Since 2009, he has served as local counsel for the states of Missouri and Kansas through National Lien and Bond. Burke also regularly speaks at continuing education seminars for engineers, architects and contractors.
In addition to litigation and commercial cost recovery, Burke handles drafting and negotiating contracts for general contractors, subcontractors and suppliers. For developer clients, he handles all aspects of commercial projects from start to finish, including drafting, administering and enforcing contracts for construction and design, managing risk through monitoring construction progress, preparing and processing pay applications, and handling lien waivers. He has pursued multiple contractor bid protests at the city, county and state levels. Burke has also successfully represented contractors in withdrawal liability claims against local union pension funds and defended against multiple NLRB claims.
Before attending law school, Burke graduated with honors from the University of Missouri. He earned dual degrees in Finance and Economics, and he was a member of the Kappa Alpha Order. Burke earned his Juris Doctorate from the University of Missouri–Kansas City in 2003. During law school, he was a recipient of the Dean’s Achievement Award. Burke also holds a Master’s of Business Administration degree with an emphasis in Entrepreneurship.
Burke has been selected as a Rising Star and Super Lawyer in Missouri and Kansas. He was also recognized as one of KC Magazine’s Missouri and Kansas’ Outstanding Young Lawyers in construction litigation and has an AV Preeminent and Platinum Client Champion rating from Martindale-Hubbell. He is also a fellow of the Construction Lawyers Society of America, and a member of both the Diversity Law Institute and Trial Law Institute.
Burke takes pleasure in an active lifestyle. He enjoys traveling, snow skiing and fishing.
