Description

I am proud to be an attorney who represents plaintiffs. I began practicing law in 1995 with the goal of representing clients who needed someone to equalize the playing field. At that time, I practiced predominantly plaintiffs’ employment discrimination. Since then, I have developed a practice which also includes litigating workers’ compensation claims, social security claims, civil cases, personal injury cases and wrongful death claims.

How my practice evolved is a long story I will try to keep relatively short. I was born in Pennsylvania and, since the age of five, have been a Floridian. I grew up in Lakeland, Florida. I had an innate skill set in math and science, probably due in part to my chemical engineer father, but I strived to develop my research and writing skills, with both genetic predisposition and lots of continuing guidance from my mother, who is a professor of English. I grew up riding my bicycle around the outskirts of town, playing my drums, running a lawn service, and, in the slow winters, working in restaurants.

I was fortunate to be accepted to the University of Florida and headed to Gainesville in 1988. I went to college with an open mind hoping to decide what my career goal would be as I learned more about academic studies and life. Ultimately, while I was very interested in science and medicine, I also was fascinated with political science and finance. While most pick one from the top contenders, I picked two areas of focused study. I received a Bachelor of Arts in political science and a Bachelor of Science in finance within four years of my enrollment. During my undergraduate studies, I worked for the Soil and Water Science department and, ultimately, oversaw a soil hydrology lab, with fulltime responsibilities, while attending school. I enjoyed my dirt lab so much that I thought I’d like to stay in Gainesville for graduate school. The University of Florida welcomed me at the Levin College of Law, where I studied a substantial amount of environmental law, knowing working on the rewarding end of that area would typically involve pro bono endeavors. I kept the lab intact, kept law school in order, and, for the last two years of law school, clerked for the reputable firm Stripling, McMichael and Stripling. That is where I learned I should be a lawyer representing plaintiffs.

I was offered a job in Daytona Beach helping those who suffered from discrimination in the workplace. Soon after, I joined a practice litigating workers’ compensation, social security disability, and personal injury cases, for a decade, during which I became a Board Certified Workers’ Compensation attorney in 2003. In 2007, my partner, Aaron Delgado, and I stared a new firm which led to additional, diverse, civil litigation. We’ve grown to a crew of five, and I am proud to say I’d try a case with any and all of them. I’ve litigated over fifty contested trials and assisted hundreds of clients through administrative adjudications.

When I am not litigating, I prefer to be bicycling, kayaking, boating, hiking or swimming, but I do save time to be a member of the Historic Preservation Board of the City of Daytona Beach, the Vice Chair of the Halifax Heritage Byway and Trails CAG, a board member of the Halifax Historical Society and a board member of the Florida Chapter of the National Employment Lawyers Association.
