Description Terry M. Sanks , a registered patent attorney, is a founding shareholder of the firm and provides representation in all areas of intellectual property, including patents, trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets, related litigation, and related business matters.

He is experienced in the preparation and prosecution of patent applications for a variety of inventions primarily dealing with electrical, electromechanical and mechanical technologies, software-based, business methods and e-commerce. Mr. Sanks also counsels clients on the patentability of inventions and provides patent infringement and validity opinions. With respect to trademarks, he counsels clients on the selection, availability for use, and the preparation and prosecution of trademarks with state agencies and the United States Patent and Trademark Office, including opposition and cancellation practice before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board. Mr. Sanks addresses client matters related to copyrights as well as prepares registration of copyrights filed with the United States Copyright Office. Mr. Sanks also litigates, representing clients in contested matters involving patent infringement, trademark infringement, unfair competition, copyright infringement, theft of trade secrets, and related matters. Additionally, he counsels clients about business matters, such as licensing, involving intellectual property.

Mr. Sanks has been an Adjunct Professor of Law at the Florida A&M University College of Law and at the Barry University School of Law. He also volunteers his time, primarily to civic and church-based organizations, lecturing on various areas of intellectual property.

Prior to entering law school, Mr. Sanks was an officer in the United States Air Force. Mr. Sanks performed several noteworthy accomplishments while in the Air Force including being the first program manager of the Electric Propulsion Space Experiment (ESEX) program, an endeavor that when tested in space in 1999 ESEX was, at that time, the highest powered subsystem ever flown in space by mankind. Mr. Sanks was directly responsible for conceiving the initial mission profile, contractor selection, advocating for funding, and initiating the development of ESEX. Mr. Sanks wrote several articles about electric propulsion during this time, and represented the Air Force at national and international conferences. He next worked as an electronic combat systems engineer, supporting the war-fighting mission of combat fighter aircraft pilots.

In the community Mr. Sanks is very involved. Having served for three years as President of the Board of Directors for Catholic Charities of Central Florida, Mr. Sanks is still currently a member today. He also spends much of his time with events involving or supporting children. He has been the band booster president and vice president at a Teague Middle School. He has been a member of the School Advisory Counsel at Lake Brantley High School. Mr. Sanks has volunteered his time as the varsity girls’ and junior varsity girls’ basketball and volleyball coach at a Teague Middle School. He has also coached several community basketball teams including a boys’ and a girls’ traveling team. Mr. Sanks is also a volunteer Guardian Ad Litem, representing children in child abuse and neglect cases.
