Alan I. Shanaman became affiliated with Prince Law Firm as an Of Counsel attorney in 2016 and brings an added dimension to Prince Law Firm’s ability to serve clients in business, real estate, corporate, and tax matters.

Alan received his B.A. from Michigan State University in 1977, J.D. from Thomas M. Cooley Law School in 1980, and an L.L.M. in Taxation with a concentration in Finance from Wayne State University Law School in 1987. Alan has been an attorney practicing in Michigan since 1980, representing clients in complex and sophisticated business and financial transactions including corporate organizations/reorganizations, mergers and acquisitions, debt refinancing and recapitalizations and mergers and acquisitions; with some transactions exceeding $40 million.

Alan’s clients have included franchisors/franchisees, medical professionals, manufacturers, automotive dealerships, commercial construction companies (representing one of the largest Native American construction companies in the Midwest), distributors, closely held businesses and commercial real estate developers in multi-million dollar projects.

Alan has acted as outside general counsel to various companies, including a multi-state personal transportation service company providing taxi, sedan, fixed route and para transit services along with taxi and sedan concession services for airports, hotels and cruise ports with gross revenue is excess of $60 million. His general counsel responsibilities included oversight of casualty claims, fuel supply agreements, acquisition of rolling stock, review of financial statements and tax returns, interpretation of both CFRs and FARs as well as review of RFPs for government contract bids.

Alan also assists clients with their corporate governance, state and federal compliance matters and employment and labor matters, along with attending and conducting annual meetings.

In addition to his experience as a business, finance and tax attorney, Alan had the distinction of being an NFL Contract Advisor (Agent) for approximately 10 years, representing both professional football players and coaches in the NFL, including negotiating contracts with their teams and endorsement contracts with various companies seeking personal service contracts with professional athletes.

Alan is a Member of the Real Property, Business Law, Native American and Taxation Sections of the State Bar of Michigan and the American Bar Association. He also is admitted to practice in the U.S. District Courts in the State of Michigan and U.S. Tax Court.
