Kerry D. Staton is a partner with Schochor, Federico and Staton, P.A., a law firm concentrating in the preparation and trial of medical negligence cases. Schochor, Federico and Staton, P.A. has offices in Baltimore and Washington, D.C.

Mr. Staton attended Oberlin College, receiving his Bachelor’s degree in 1976, and the University of Maryland School of Law, where he received his Juris Doctor in 1980. He is admitted to practice before the state and federal courts of Maryland and the District of Columbia. Additionally, Mr. Staton has handled medical negligence cases in Pennsylvania, Alabama and other jurisdictions.

Mr. Staton is a member of the Maryland State Bar Association, where he has served as a member of the Special Committee on Audit Procedures; the National Bar Association, where he has lectured on Medical Negligence Case Evaluation; the Baltimore City Bar Association, where he was a member of the Committee on Civility; a member of the Circuit Court for Baltimore City Special Committee on ADR and the Monumental City Bar Association Judicial Nominating Committee. Additionally, Mr. Staton has served on the Board of Governors of the Maryland Trial Lawyers Association from 1988 through 1995 and, as a member of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, he has served as the Maryland State Delegate and Minority Caucus Member for Maryland. He is also a member of the American Bar Association, the Trial Lawyers for Public Justice, and the Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity. Mr. Staton is also a Fellow of the Maryland Bar Foundation, a member of the American Judicature Society, a Fellow of the Reginald Heber Smith Law Fellowship, and a permanent member of the Fourth Circuit Judicial Conference.

Mr. Staton participates on the Attorney Grievance Commission where he has served as an Inquiry Panel member, a Review Board member, as well as, Vice-Chairman and Chairman of the Review Board. Additionally, he has been an instructor at the University of Maryland School of Law and a faculty member of the Maryland State Course on Professionalism for Lawyers. Mr. Staton has also served as invited faculty for the Office of the Attorney General and for the Maryland Institute for Continuing Education of Lawyers, Inc. (MICPEL). Mr. Staton has lectured at Risk Management seminars for Johns Hopkins Hospital, the Western Shore Dental Society, and has testified before the Maryland Legislature on issues of law, medicine and tort reform.
