Elizabeth C. Thomson ("Liz") is a partner with the law firm of Hertz Schram PC concentrating her practice in the areas of property rights, environmental, commercial and business litigation. With over 20 years of experience, Liz’s areas of specialty also include class action, general negligence and mass tort litigation. She has represented thousands of plaintiffs in various mass tort and class action cases, protecting the rights of property owners, minorities and public consumers. She has successfully litigated numerous environmental tort class actions against corporate polluters on behalf of Michigan residents. Liz also served as outside corporation counsel for the County of Wayne in what is nationally known as the "Firearms Litigation." This highly publicized litigation was featured on Dateline NBC and is a landmark case on the issue of public nuisance. Liz successfully represented hundreds of plaintiffs in pharmaceutical and medical device litigation against manufacturers and distributors of the drugs known as "FenPhen", Vioxx, Redux, Baycol and Sulzer hip implants.

Liz also provided pro bono legal services to several Michigan families who lost loved ones in New York City on September 11, 2001. She attended hearings in New York City and recovered millions of dollars for her clients through the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund.

Liz received her Juris Doctor in 1995 from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law. She earned her Bachelor of General Studies Degree, with High Distinction, from the University of Michigan in 1991. Liz is admitted to practice in the State of Michigan, the Michigan Court of Appeals, the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan, the United States District Court for the Western District of Michigan, the United States Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States Supreme Court.

Liz was selected to the 2014, 2015 and 2016 Michigan Super Lawyers list for her demonstrated excellence in the practice of law. She was also identified among the Super Lawyer Top 25 Women in the Law.

Liz was selected to be a member of the Class of 2013 Michigan Lawyers Weekly "Women in the Law" award program, dedicated to saluting high-achieving women lawyers in Michigan and their accomplishments.

Liz was recognized by Hour Magazine as a top lawyer for her mass tort/class action expertise, 2014 and 2015. She was also selected by Crain’s Detroit Business, Top Attorneys in Michigan, 2016.Liz has lectured at the American Association for Justice Convention on the issues of public nuisance and the national firearms litigation. Liz also serves as a case evaluator for the Wayne County Mediation Tribunal Association, serves as an Arbitrator, is a Fellow of the Oakland County Bar Association and a member of the Michigan Association of Justice.
